  • Obituary: Dorothy Diane (Hiltz) Horsnell - of Aylesford, Kings County, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2013 at the Valley Regional Hospital with loved ones by her side. Born January 17, 1946 in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Josephine (Burns) Hiltz. Dorothy farmed, alongside her husband, at the family dairy farm, W.F. Horsnell and Sons Ltd. and later as co-owner of Northridge Farms with her husband and three sons. She also was a weaver at Formex, then a realtor, as well a lifelong entrepreneur. Dorothy was an active member of the Liberal Association, a Lioness, Red Hat Society, TOPS, Soldier's Memorial Opportunity Shop, and very active with the Aylesford United Church. She was a renowned baker and the coffee was always on and no one left hungry - be that at her home, her camper, or at tractor pull. Her many activities included crocheting, daily walks, gardening, traveling throughout the world with her late husband, and playing cards. Surviving are her three sons, Dwight (Carrie) of Weston; Paul (Shirley Banks) of Greenwood; and Robin of Dempsey Corner; grandchildren, Jacob, Kody, Kaylem, Leanna, and Lauren; great-grandson, Knightly; sister, Margaret (Roger) Tupper of Nicholsville; brother, David (Anne) Hiltz of Aylesford; brother, Cyril (Tammy) Hiltz of Kamloops, BC; and many special nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her loving Dashunds, Smokey and Bandit. She was predeceased by her sister, Karen DeMille and her husband of 42 years, Eric. Cremation has taken place according to Dorothy's wishes. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the Aylesford United Church. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 21, 2013 at the Aylesford United Church. Private family burial in the Aylesford Union Cemetery. Reverend Brenda Nesbitt officiating. Family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Valley Hospice Foundation. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville.
