  • Obituary: HORSNELL, Eric - Aylesford, Kings Co., passed away June 7, 2004, at home with his family at his side. Born in Aylesford June 21, 1942, he was a son of the late Wilfred F. and Isabell (Aylward) Horsnell. Eric was a well-known and respected member of the Valley community, firstly in the family dairy farm, W.F. Horsnell & Sons Ltd. with his father and brother Laurie, and most recently as the owner of Northridge Farms with his sons. He was a charter member of the Aylesford Lions Club and served for two terms as the King Lion. He was awarded a life membership by Lions International. He was a member and president of the Aylesford Agricultural Society. He was a member of the Maritime Tractor Pullers Association and was the first person in the province to build and operate a modified tractor. He was a well- known campaigner at the pulls throughout the maritimes. He was a former councillor for Kings County (1985-1991) and had served on the boards responsible for planning the V.O.N, the Waterville Rehab Centre and the Grand View Manor. Eric was an avid curler both as a Lion and in the Greenwood Industrial League. He was on two Provincial Championship teams. He had been actively involved throughout his life as a member of the Liberal Party and was recently visited by Robert Thibeault MP and Leo Glavine, MLA. Eric had a great love for his Dashund "Smokey", and his flower gardens at home. He had travelled through Canada, Europe and the United States and before his death told many visitors that he had led a rich and fruitful life and leaves with no regrets. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Dorothy (Hiltz) Horsnell; sons, Dwight (Carrie), Paul (Shirley Banks), Robin (Angela Franey), all of Aylesford; grandchildren, Jacob, Kody and Kaylem; sister, Mary Louise (Jim) Rippey, Windsor; brothers, Laurie (Joyce), Aylesford; Clyde (Pat), Morden; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, in Aylesford United Church, Pastor Kay Dean DM officiating. Burial in Aylesford Union Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Annapolis Valley Victorian Order of Nurses or Canadian Cancer Society.
