Notes

  • Obituary: Brule, Dec. 20 - The community was deeply saddened when they learned that Christy Ann, wife of Bernard ROSS, Brule, had passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Jessie LOCKERBY, Tatamagouche, early Thursday morning, December 14,1944. The late Mrs. ROSS was born at Barrachois forty-four years ago, youngest daughter of the late Alexander and Laura REID. After her marriage she resided at Barrachois and with her family moved to Waldegrave four years ago, where she had since resided. Her passing leaves a vacancy in the community which will be hard to fill. In her quiet unassuming way she was a friend of all. Her kind hospitality won for her many friends. She was devoted to her home and family and it is there where she was best known and most loved, that she will be keenly missed. She was ever willing to help in any good cause pertaining to the welfare of the community and was a generous helper in the Red Cross activities. The deceased had been in ill health during the past summer months and in September she moved to the home of her sister, Mrs. Jessie LOCKERBY, at Tatamagouche. Through her illness she was tenderly cared for by her sister, Mrs. LOCKERBY, and as her condition became more serious her sister, Miss Leota REID, R.N., came home from Haverhill, Mass., and remained with her until her passing, all that loving hands and medical skill could do for her was done, but to no avail, and as the early hours of Thursday morning were breaking, surrounded by her loved ones, she passed to the home beyond. A lonely husband, a veteran of the First World War mourns the passing of a devoted wife and to children, Bernice, Jean Leota, Clair and Ronald who in early life are there bereft of a loving mother's care. Two sisters, Mrs. Jessie LOCKERBY, of Tatamagouche, and Miss Leota REID, of Haverhill, Mass., and one brother Stanley REID, of Barrasois, also survive to mourn their loss. (...) afternoon, Dec. 16 from the home of her sister, Mrs. Lockerby, and was attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends from out-lying districts to pay a final tribute of respect to the departed. The impressive service was conducted by Rev. Mr. WILIAMS, of Scotsburn, assisted by Rev. Mr. DAVIS, of Sharon Church, Tatamagouche.
