  • Obituary: Gerald Clifford "Jud" Cooling \endash 70, Truro, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, January 17, 2010, in Debert Court. Born April 25, 1939, in Truro, he was a son of Clara (Weatherbee) Chapman, Truro, and the late Jack Cooling. Jud worked with the RCAF as an Aero Engine Technician from 1956 - 1969. He then went on to work with Yould's Ltd. for many years and then at Keddy's and Stonehouse Motel as night manager. More recently, he worked at Tatamagouche Bakery and calling Bingo at John's Hall. Along with his mother, Jud is survived by his daughter, Margaret Ellen Higgins, Edmonton, Alberta; son, Jerry (Wendy) Cooling, Surrey, British Columbia; grandchildren, Keiver and Liam Higgins, Matthew and Amanda Cooling; sisters, Ellen Smith, Bracebridge, Ontario; Gayle (Doug) McLaren, Crowes Mills; Donna (Gerald) Rushton, Debbie Chapman, Truro; brother, Danny Chapman, Truro; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Along with his father, he was predeceased by his step-father, John Chapman; sister, Beverly Axiaq. Special thanks are extended to the wonderful staff at Debert Court for their exceptional care of Jud. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where there will be a reception and celebration of Jud's life from 2-4 pm Thursday, January 21, 2010. No flowers by family request, please. If so desired, donations in Jud's memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
