  • Obituary: PICTOU – Robert Johnstone Langille, 82, of Strathcona Place, Pictou, passed away September 19, 2007, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Pictou, he was a son of the late Malcolm Gordon and Mary Agnes (McCreadie) Langille. A lifelong resident of Pictou, he had lived on the same street for over 75 years, was a former town councillor, had served as deputy mayor, and was instrumental in the founding of the Northumberland Fisheries Museum. A talented wood carver, and carving instructor, one of his works was presented to Princess Alexandra on her visit. Bob had also served on the school board, and worked for Elections Canada overseas. Upon retirement he held the position of Maintenance Supervisor, for the Pictou District School Board. He enjoyed raising chihuahuas and springer spaniels, and loved to travel. He was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Pictou. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Constance (Walker); daughters, Debbie (Russell) Canning, and Pam (James) Cameron, both of Trenton; son, Ian (Ron), Maple Ridge, B.C.; grandchildren, Stephanie, Lindsay, and Charles; great granddaughter, Emma; two sisters, a sister-in-law, nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his pal, Bismark. Robert was predeceased by a brother, and two nieces. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or funeral at his request. Graveside service will be held at a later date in St. James Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be made to the Pictou Branch of the Pictou Antigonish Regional Library, L.O.R.D.A. Park, or the S.P.C.A. Arrangements are under the direction of McLaren Funeral Service, Pictou.
