Soley died at his home, Shady Nook, on July 22nd, aged 43 years, leaving a wife and six children to survive him. His story is a sad one, and should be a lesson to farmers to be very careful when handling sick horses. He had a team in 1903 that contracted glanders without his knowledge and some of the poison is supposed to have entered his system through a cut in the hand. He was in Calgary hospital for a long time and got considerable relief, but the expense was too great and he came home again. The disease appeared in the shape of ulcers... and he finally passed away. The remains were interred in Red Deer cemetery.
