Nathan Upham of Grafton, one of the oldest residents of North Dakota, and well known throughout the northern half of the state, died shortly before 1 o'clock this afternoon, according to word received by his brother-in-law, D. A. Hogg, manager of the Robertson Lumber company. Mr. and Mrs. Hogg will leave this afternoon for Grafton to attend the funeral. Mr. Upham spent the winter at Hot Springs, Colo., and had just recently returned. Yesterday he had a relapse, which resulted in his death. T. will pay final honors to the memory of the late Nathan Upham next Tuesday afternoon when the body of that pioneer resident of North Dakota is laid to rest at Drayton. The burial ritual of the Masonic order will be used in the funeral services. Mr. Upham was one of the best known pioneers in this section of the state, having come to Dakota Territory in 1879. He operated a hardware store at Grafton until 12 years ago when he removed to a large farm which he had purchased near Drayton. This farm at which he died, has become one of the best known stock farms in this part of the state. Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Hogg of this city, brother-in-law and sister of the deceased, left Friday night to attend the funeral. Mr. Upham will be well remembered by the farmers of North Dakota as one of those who went to Washington in 1917 to interview the price fixing committee of the government, and succeeded in establishing a fair price for North Dakota wheat. He was at all times a leader in movements affecting the welfare of the farmers.
