Born in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lucy (Ulhman) Hodges. She grew up in Morristown and Aylesford East. Jessie took her nurse's training at the Kentville Sanitorium, graduated as a CNA (1957), and worked throughout the Western Kings Memorial Hospital, going to Outpatients in 1971. She was a member of Berwick Baptist Church and volunteered with the South Berwick Community Hall working to restore the upstairs, organize community suppers, and prepare weekly card party refreshments. Jessie's keen mind and hands were always busy: knitting mittens, hats, and baby blankets, mending, baking treats, gardening, making pickles, jams, and preserving fruits and vegetables, reading, solving and putting together puzzles, and using her phone and iPad to stay in touch with family and friends. She loved to pick blueberries and watch Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Jessie's greatest pride and joy was her family. She cared for her husband, Hardy, mother-in-law, Florence, and brother-in-law, Ronnie in their declining years. She thrived on family visits and keeping up on everyone's activities and accomplishments. She enjoyed get-togethers and initiated family, school, and hospital reunions.
