Born in Hartford, a son of Frances (Curlee) Palmer and the late Morley Palmer, he lived in Cromwell for many years before moving to Glastonbury and then Hebron. He was a graduate of the University of Connecticut, where he received his Ph.D. and later taught Geography. He was a member of the Glastonbury Community Church where he was choir director and worship leader for over 20 years in joyful partnership with his wife. He was a member of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and the vulcan Riders and Owners Club. Besides his wife and mother, he leaves a daughter, Meghan and her husband Joshua Wessel of Cromwell; a sister Sharon Palmer of Middletown; his father and mother-in-law Arthur and Dorothy Thompson of Deep River; his two sisters-in-law, Virginia and her husband Kevin Wynne of Cumberland, Rhode Island; and Ann Thompson of Malden, MA.
