  • Obituary: PROMINENT VALLEY FARMER DIES RAINFORTH, George Nichols - 63, Morristown, Kings County, died August 6, 1994, at home. Born in Morristown, he was a son of the late Lorimer and Hilda (Nichols) Rainforth. He was employed with the Berwick Fruit Company for 19 years, retiring as manager in 1972 in order to take over the operation of the family farm in Morristown. He was a member and treasurer of the Morristown Community Club and instrumental in the expanding of the community hall. He was president of the Morristown Mountain Peakers Seniors Club; director of the Morristown Cemetery; 26-year member of the Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department, where he had held positions as captain and treasurer and was instrumental in the forming of the Berwick and District Fire Commission. He was a member of Berwick Curling Club and Morristown Baptist Church, having served as treasurer, moderator and Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Federation of Agriculture and Nova Scotia Fruit Growers Association. He had served as a trustee of Western Kings Memorial Hospital for 17 years; was returning officer for Kings West; founder of the Boy Scout Movement in Morristown and worked as a cub leader. For many years, he umpired for local softball games. He was an adherent to the Berwick Baptist Church; member and past president of Nova Scotia Pork Producers Association; member and past director of Nova Scotia Pork Producers Marketing Board, Co-op Atlantic and Scotian Gold. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth M. Nichols; son, Tim, Morristown; daughter, Donna (Mrs. Jeffery Weihers), Morristown; brother, James, Beamsville, Ont.; two sisters, Margaret (Mrs. John Walter), Vancouver, B.C.; Mary Rainforth, Halifax; four grandchildren, Joshua and Lindsay Rainforth, Richard and Sara Weihers. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today in H.C. Lindsay Memorial Chapel, Berwick. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Berwick Baptist Church, Rev. Gordon Walker and Rev. Douglas Porter officiating. Burial will be in Morristown Cemetery. A reception will follow in the family home, 100 Prospect Rd., Morristown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Berwick Baptist Church or Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department.
