Notes

  • Obituary: Dale Owen Nunan, 64, of Cape Porpoise, died Sunday, May 6, 2012 at Southern Maine Medical Center. He was born in Portland on April 7, 1948, the son of Raymond Wilbur and Ardelle M. (Eaton) Nunan. He was educated in area schools, and graduated from Kennebunk High School. From 1967 to 1971, Dale proudly served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed at South Portland, Fletcher's Neck Life Boat Station, and Coast Guard Cutter Castle Rock. On September 14, 1968, he married his best friend and love of his life, the former Eleanor Joyce Holbrook. Together they shared over 43 years of marriage. Dale was a commercial fisherman. He loved being on the water, whether fishing for lobster, fish, or shrimp. He was active in community affairs and had served as a volunteer fireman. He also served on the Budget Board, the Atlantic Fireman Association, and the Pier Committee. Dale was a member of American Legion Post 87, North Berwick, and the National Rifle Association. Throughout his life he battled several health issues, but always remained optimistic and determined. He was fortunate and blessed to receive a kidney transplant from his sister, Gretchen Erb in 1986. Dale loved to watch NASCAR, and liked car racing of all kinds, but especially dirt track and small track. He enjoyed camping, cooking, traveling, and spending time with friends. He especially loved his dogs "Buoy" and "Barney." He was a true family man and enjoyed being with his wife, children and grandchildren most of all. He was predeceased by his parent, Raymond and Ardelle Nunan. Dale is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Eleanor Nunan of Cape Porpoise; his son, Mitchell Nunan and his wife Sarah of Kennebunk; his daughter, Becky Jacobs and her husband Josh of Arundel; four grandchildren, Blake and Ellie Nunan, Ian and Miles Jacobs; his sister, Gretchen Erb, and several nieces and nephews. There are no calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Arundel Cemetery, Kennebunkport.
