Born July 17, 1937 in Millville, Kings Co., she was a daughter of the late Clinton D. and Jessie V. (Vienotte) Nichols. Shirley received her early education in Millville and completed high school at Tatamagouche Rural High. She went on to attend the Provincial Normal College in Truro to receive her teaching diploma and then was able to do every day what she loved doing best which was being in school. She taught in several one room school houses for fifteen years and then Tatamagouche Elementary from 1970 until 1993 at her retirement. She continued to study throughout her career to eventually receive a T6 teaching license. She was a Life Member of the Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary Branch 64, Tatamagouche, and she took great pride in decorating her home for each season which included sixteen trees decorated every Christmas. One of her greatest joys in life was her grandchildren, and at the end of every school year for ten years, she would immediately travel to Ontario to be with them for the entire summer until they eventually relocated to Nova Scotia to live within minutes of her home. Surviving are, her husband, William "Billy" Cameron; son, Edwin (Tiany); grandchildren, Christine (Daniel), Luke, Mark and Adam; and their mother, Patti (Horne) Cameron; sisters, Barb Penny and Maxine Mann; her favorite niece, Jacqueline Penny; sisters-in-law, Betty Nichols and Jeannie Nichols. She was predeceased by her son, Jack; brothers, Russell and Freddie; sisters, Ann Creelman and Margaret Langille. Arrangements have been entrusted to Coulter's Funeral Home, Tatamagouche. Cremation has taken place. The Royal Canadian Legion Auxiliary will conduct a tribute service at 11:45 a.m. on Friday, November 23 at the Legion, 80 Queen St., Tatamagouche, followed by a time of visiting and refreshments from noon until 2 p.m. in the legion hall.
