  • Obituary: WEST CHESTER, Pa. \emdash Robert A. Carruthers, 72, a Lowell native and a former Chelmsford resident, who was a Korean War veteran, died Friday, Aug. 26, at his West Chester home. He was the husband of Lois E. (Brooks) Carruthers. He was born in Lowell, Feb. 8, 1933, son of the late John and Gladys (Prentiss) Carruthers. He graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1951 and received his associates degree from Bentley College. Mr. Carruthers served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a former teammate of the former Brooklyn Dodgers, according to family members. Before retiring, Mr. Carruthers was a business manager for American Motors, which later became Chrysler Corp. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, R. Jeffrey and Gayle Carruthers, residing in Iowa, J. Scott and Kathryn Carruthers of Boothwyn, Pa., and Eric A. and Janine Carruthers of Phoenixville, Pa.; a sister, Marguerite Waite of Chelmsford; and seven grandchildren, Lauren, David, Robby, Ryan, Katie, Caroline and Wade.
