Obituary: Carter, Phyllis Alexina '96 77, Truro died peacefully September 21, 2010 in her sleep at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro after a very brief battle with cancer. Phyllis was an avid bridge player and a longtime member of the Truro Chapter of the Rug Hookers Guild, having hooked many beautiful rugs and wall pictures. She retired due to health and soon took up painting with watercolors. Her home and the homes of her children are adorned with Phyllis's beautiful paintings and hookings. She spent all her summers at Shortts Lake with family and friends which brought many fond memories. Phyllis had many good friends and will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Douglas Carter; daughter, Gayle (Bruce) Farquhar, Berwick; sons, Mark (Judy), Lantz, Andrew, Shortts Lake; daughter-in-law, Sali Brown, Truro; sister-in-law, Christine Carter, Truro; grandchildren, Sarah, James and Laura Farquhar, all of Berwick, Jeremy Carter, Lantz, Isaac Carter, Truro, Polly Carter, Shortts Lake; nieces, Janice Chase, Truro, Shawn Redmond, Ottawa. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Christina (Fancy) Redmond; an infant daughter, Jennifer; sisters, Sigrid Gillis, Shirley Chase; brothers, Gerald (Joan) Redmond and Ralph Redmond. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 5-7 pm with Memorial Service on Friday at 1:00 pm, both in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Gary Yetman officiating. Interment in Terrace Hill Cemetery, In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.
