  • Obituary: Carter, Christine Harlan -77, Truro, died peacefully in her sleep on March 16, 2014. Born in Truro she was a lifelong resident of Truro and lived in Cedarstone Enhanced Care for the past four years. Chris was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by and will be missed by her niece, Gayle (Bruce) Farquhar, Berwick, N.S., her nephews, Mark (Judy) Carter, Lantz, N.S., Andrew Carter, great nieces Sarah Farquhar, Grand Prairie, Alberta, Laura Farquhar, Fort Saint John, B.C., great nephews, James Farquhar, Lower Sackville, N.S./Fort MacMurray, Jeremy Carter, Lloydminster, Sask., Isaac Carter, Truro, N.S. She was predeceased by her parents, Elwyn and Katherine "Polly" (Wetmore) Carter, brother, Douglas (Phyllis Redmond) Carter, three uncles and three aunts, and a niece in infancy. Chris completed her high school years at Kings Edgehill School, Windsor, N.S. She obtained a University Degree in Education. Chris worked for many years in the family business of Carter's China and Gift Shop and took great pride in arranging china and gifts in artistic displays. Many patrons to the store would only have Chris help them in choosing gifts or dishes. Chris was a member of the Advisory Board of the Nova Scotia School for Girls for a term of office from April 1969 to April 1971. Chris' friends and family were very special to her. She was a lifelong member of St. John's Anglican Church and belonged to the Church choir. For most of her life she spent her summers at "Shortts Lake" and many weekends and vacation time in Indian Harbour, N.S. with her very special Uncle Don (Mariam) Wetmore. Chris was an avid reader, played the piano and was a true dog lover. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 2 p.m. from St. John's Anglican Church, 23 Church St., Truro with Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating. Interment will be at Terrace Hill Cemetery, Truro. Family flowers only, please. Donations may be made to St. John's Anglican Church, the Children's Wish Foundation, the Colchester Community Work Shop or to a charity of choice.
