  • Obituary: The Chronicle Herald Halifax, NS August 4th,2008 **************************************** LOUGHEAD, Frank Kent - 91, passed away peacefully to eternal life with his heavenly Father, on Friday evening, August 1, 2008, in Wynn Park Villa, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 18, 1916, in Old Barns, he was a son of the late Robert Kent and Mary Mildred (Crowe) Loughead. Frank was a member of Old Barns United Church, where he was a member of the church choir and served as an Elder. He farmed most of his life in Old Barns, went to work with General Mills in California for six years and then returned to Old Barns to work with the Colchester East Hants District School Board as a janitor and bus driver until his retirement. He was active with the Truro Community Players in his younger years and a former member of the John Fisher Male Choir. He enjoyed playing the fiddle and was completely at home while working in his garden or in the woods. Frank is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 66 years, Rowena Newell (Yuill), Wynn Park Villa; children, Eric (Kathy), Lynne (Dave) Holmes, Lodi, California; Kent (Judy), David, Old Barns; Michael "Mike" (Bonnie), Pictou; James "Jim" (Deborah), Cole Harbour; grandchildren, Shaun, Sheri, David Andrew, Ryan, Kevin, and Jamie; six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Eric. Special thanks are extended to the staff of Valley View Villa, Stellarton and Wynn Park Villa, Truro, for their exceptional care to Frank and his family. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro, where Frank's family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, August 5. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 6, in Old Barns United Church, Old Barns, Rev. Dan Gunn officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Private family interment will be held in Old Barns Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's memory to Old Barns United Church are welcomed.
