Shirley was 96. Shirley was the daughter of Ralph Manning and Marguerite Gibson. Shirley was predeceased by her husband (Leslie Blaxland, daughter Debbie Graham, infant son Freddie and sister Barbara Dawley. She is survived by sons Rick Blaxland (Vicki), Jim Blaxland, daughter Karen Vincent (Paul), and son-in-law John Graham. Grandchildren Andrew Graham, Amy Doig (Josh), Lori Mcleod (Shane), Jordan Blaxland, Evan Blaxland (Amanda), Kelly Vincent and Megan Vincent (Vernon). Great grandchildren Gavin, Lauren, Brandon, Camryn, Donovan, Lexie, Hunter, Kingston, William, and Spencer. For 20 years, Shirley with husband Les enjoyed the "snowbird life" in sunny Florida then returning to their cottage in Pugwash. During these years, Shirley graced us with many of her beautiful quilts all of which she would say " entirely done by hand." She was an extremely talented crafter and always had a project on the go. Many of the grandchildren wore her famous kitten and squirrel sweaters. Shirley loved to read and could read a book in a day. She loved to swim in the Northumberland Strait and later in life at the Canada Games where she met some lovely new friends. She always had a story to share in the pool or over coffee. These friendships lasted for many years and were cherished by her. Shirley was a wonderful kind and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend. Shirley will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege to know her. The family would like to thank the staff at Northwood - Ivany Place (Bluenose Cove) for their wonderful care and compassion over the years she was there, especially in her last days.
