  • Obituary: Gordon T. Gordie Ross, of East Bridgewater, passed away July 13, 2011, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 68. Gordon was the husband of Sandra (Tokan) Luddy-Ross and the late Marguerite Ross. Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Harton and Natalie (Tranmer) Ross. Gordie was a graduate of Bridgewater State College earning his masters degree in Guidance. He was an educator for 34 years at the East Bridgewater Middle School, where he taught science, biology and history. He had the pleasure of working for his dear friend and school principal, John (Jack) Collins, during his entire teaching career. Combining his love of children and his passion for sports, Gordie spent most of his life coaching Little League Baseball, golf, basketball and football. His favorite coaching position was that of football coach for East Bridgewater High School for more than 30 years. After retiring as a teacher, he continued to coach football as an assistant at Boston College High School and most recently at Cardinal Spellman High School. Gordie was an accomplished golfer and a longtime member at Ridder Country Club. He also golfed at many other courses around the United States and abroad. He scored a Hole-in-One three times during his lifetime. Gordie and his wife Sandra loved to travel. They took many trips through the U.S., enjoyed numerous cruises and toured Ireland, Scotland and Iceland. Besides golf and traveling, Gordie also was an avid photographer taking many photos of covered bridges throughout New England. He was the father of the late Jason Ross and is survived by his children, Christopher Ross of Taunton, Lisa Johnson of Arlington, Va., Patrick Luddy and his wife Corin; his two granddaughters, Gabriella and Julia Luddy. His funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, July 19, at 10 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, East Bridgewater. Burial will follow in Central Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be held Monday, July 18, from 4-7 p.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary), Whitman.
