Notes

  • Occupation: Teacher
  • Obituary: Mary M. Hosek, 89, of Stockdale, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002. Her first teaching job was in Fentress, where she taught for five years. In 1938, she came to teach at the Stockdale elementary campus, and later moved to the high school, where she taught English until her retirement in 1973. In spite of her strict discipline, she was revered and loved by her students. Her students knew what Mary expected from them, and they learned. Her love for teaching the English language inspired many of her students to choose teaching as their occupations. She will be remembered fondly for instilling in her students respect, dedication to learning, fairness, and a love for humanity. She is survived by her adopted family: son Richard Lee Neill and wife Susan; daughter Janet Jay and husband Tim; sister Shirley Neill; grandchildren Lance and Macie Neill and Clint Jay; cousins Ernest John Brinkman, Betty Jaseckas, and James Manning. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Hosek; parents Oscar and Pearl Manning; a sister, Orlean Manning; and infant brothers. Visitation was held on Friday, March 1, in the Finch Funeral Chapel in Stockdale. The family received family and friends from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services were held on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Harry West officiated the services.
