Notes

  • Obituary: Halifax Herald December 4,2004 LIND, Francis Joseph - 90, Dartmouth. It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Francis Joseph Lind on Thursday, December 2, 2004, in Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born March 9, 1914, in Reserve, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Frederick and Margaret (Kenna) Lind. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family and is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, the former Frances Dalrymple; daughters, Margaret Lind, Karen (Norm) Carter, both of Dartmouth; grandchildren, David Youden, Montreal; Brian and Laura Carter, Dartmouth; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by grandson, Robert Tyler, in infancy; sisters, Margaret and Ida; brothers, Thomas, Frederick, Ernest, John, Raymond, Edward and Bernard. Francis was very fond of his gardens and flowers, especially at the cottages at Sand Point and Brule Shore. He loved the company of his family and friends and his numerous stories and jokes were enjoyed by all. For 30 years, he was employed in the taxi business in Dartmouth. Prior to that, he worked for Teasdale and Foot, Bolands, Dartmouth Shipyard and Townsend Shipping in Montreal. He also worked as a reserve policeman for the Town of Dartmouth in the 1940s. He was a member of Saint Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, Army/Navy Air Force Club and Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre. Arrangements have been entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, where the family will receive friends from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 p.m. (only) Sunday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday in Saint Thomas More Roman Catholic Church, corner of Main Street and Caledonia Road, Dartmouth, Father Irek Bem officiating. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow in Atlantic Funeral Home Family Reception Centre. Special thanks to Dr. Harley, Dr. Michael and Dr. Casson, nurses and staff of 3 East, Dartmouth General Hospital and to Sister Joana Madu for all their kindness and support. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Francis' memory to the CNIB, Canadian Diabetes Association or Lung Association of Nova Scotia would be appreciated.
