Obituary: he death of S. Reuben Smiley of Torbrook Mines took place on Wednesday
morning, February 16, after a short illness. Mr. Smiley was seventy nine
years of age and was born in Port Dufferin, Halifax Co., and came to
Kingston over forty years ago. He is survived by his widow, two daughters,
Mrs. T.L. Brindley of Houlton, Maine, and Mrs. William Lyford of Brockton,
Mass.; one son, Oliver of Detroit Mich. One sister, Mrs. Balcom of Halifax,
who is 93 years of age, also survives. The late Mr. Smiley was a member of
the Baptist Church and also I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 65. The funeral was held from
his late home in Torbrook Mines at two o'clock on Friday, February 18th, the
service being conducted by Rev. P.M. Hamilton of Nictaux Falls, Rev.
Theodore Ross and Rev. C.W. Cook of Kingston. Appropriate hymns were sung by the choir. Floral tributes from relatives, friends and Lodge were very
beautiful.
