Born in Milford, he was a son of the late John Christie and Pearl Dalrymple. Russell was raised and educated in Elmsdale. In 1939 he began his career with Imperial Oil at the Dartmouth Refinery as a pipefitter and machinist, working his way through TUNS to advance to senior management. He retired from there in 1987 and then enjoyed a long and happy retirement with Gertrude, his wife of 65 years. He was a founding member, and Deacon of South End United Baptist Church, founding member of Elmsdale Baptist Church and a founding member of Dartmouth Community Credit Union where he held positions on their board of directors for many years. He enjoyed rock hounding, jewellery making, RV travel, snow-birding to Florida, stamp collecting, playing bridge and cribbage; was a champion bowler, avid fisherman, gardener, enjoyed cruising to the Caribbean and playing with his granddaughters, Dawn and Trish and in later years his great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lucas and Taylor. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Wilson); son, Albert (Margaret); daughters, Linda Williams (Gerald), Margaret Carter (Stephen); grandson, Cail Robert Dalrymple (Jenny); granddaughters, Dawn Boutilier (Ken), Trish Giles (Chris) and Tracy Penney (Dave); great-grandchildren, Jacob and Lucas Boutilier, Taylor Giles, Bobby Jr. Dalrymple, Emily and Evan Penney; sisters, Ruth Howlett, Shirley Rogers, and brother, Laurie Dalrymple (Lorraine) and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Roy Dalrymple. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 6:30- 8:30 p.m. Thursday, September 17, in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, September 18, in South End Baptist Church, 60 Hastings Dr., Dartmouth.
