Born in Milford Station, she was a daughter of the late Franklin and Lena (Smith) Ross. Ruth was a member of Brunswick Street United Church, Truro and worked at K-mart cafeteria for 14 years. She was a Past Noble Grand of Diamond Rebekah Lodge #15, Truro, a Past District Deputy President of the Rebekah Assembly and a Past President of the Rebekah Assembly of the Atlantic Jurisdiction and was a member of Freedom Rebekah Lodge, Tatamagouche. Ruth enjoyed dancing, especially to "old time" music and she also enjoyed travelling, especially cruises. Her late husband was in the Military so she lived in Germany as well as other provinces in Canada. She always had an interest in watching baseball and hockey, and she was a life-long fan of Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs. Ruth was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by her children, Norma (Dennis) Frost, New Glasgow; Helen (Ian) Warr, Dartmouth; Joseph (Colleen) McNutt, Belleville, Ontario; David (Melissa) McNutt, Truro; grandchildren, Ryan McNutt, Lucas McNutt (Janelle Hankey), Katherine (Nick) DeRoche, Grant Warr; great grandchildren, Ayla McNutt, Brea McNutt, Nathan DeRoche, Riley Ruth DeRoche; several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Walter Corbett McNutt; son, Vernon McNutt; granddaughter, Mary Ruth McNutt; brothers, Roy, George, Gordon, James, Harlan, John; sisters, Helen, Edith, Norma. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall \endash Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where the funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, August 1, 2024, Reverend John Parsons officiating. Interment in Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Upper North River.
