Notes

  • Obituary: Exeter, NH M. Elizabeth Morse (Fitzpatrick/MacKenzie) Age 91, of Exeter, died on March 19, 2011 in Brentwood, NH. Betty was born January 12, 1920 in Haverhill, MA. to Eva Muriel Woodworth and James J. Fitzpatrick. Her mother died a month after the birth and Betty was brought up in Exeter, NH by her mother's sister and brother-in-law, Amy Ann Woodworth and A. Edwin MacKenzie. Betty was a 1938 graduate of Robinson Seminary in Exeter and attended the University of New Hampshire. She married UNH student, W. Clinton Morse in July 1939. She continued college, a geology major, until the birth of her first child in 1941. They divorced in 1954. She was the Exeter Congregational Church Secretary during the 1950's and 60's. She became a Title Examiner in 1967 for Shute, Engel, and Frasier, then for NH Abstract & Title Company from which she retired in 1984. After retirement, she volunteered at the Exeter Historical Society and the Exeter Library. She is remembered as smart, determined, athletic, a family historian, archivist and a Red Sox fan. She wrote wonderful letters; she was a loyal friend. She was tough; e.g., she kept her fear of thunder storms to herself so her children would not be afraid. She is pre deceased by her parents, her aunt and uncle, and her brother, James Fitzpatrick. She is survived by daughter, Ann MacKenzie Morse Hartner and son-in-law, William Hartner of Newtonville, MA., son Lynn D. Morse and daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Morse of Stratham, NH; four grandchildren and their spouses: Christopher and Danielle Hartner of South Deerfield, MA., Allison and Mathew Henson of Cambridge, MA., Elizabeth Hartner-Frigault and Brendan Frigault of Sharon, MA. and Tyler and Mary Ellen Morse of Rye, NH; eight great grandchildren: Jack Morse, Coleman Hartner, Joseph and James Morse, Amelia Hartner, Charles Henson, Isabelle and Joseph Frigault and many nieces, nephews and cousins. It was her wish that services and burial in the Exeter Cemetery be private. Donations in her memory may be made to the Exeter Historical Society and the Exeter Library.
