He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Genung Steadman. He is survived by 3 sons. Kenneth (Eve) Steadman of Geneva, Bruce (Maureen) Steadman of Atlanta, GA and Stephen (Brigette) Steadman of Boston, Mass.; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Mr. Steadman was born in Billtown, Nova Scotia, Canada and was the son of the late Stephen N. and Annie Taylor Steadman. He received his B A. from Acadia University in Nova Scotia in 1925 and his Ph.D. in Optical Physics from Yale University in 1929. He was employed in the Rochester Physics Dept. in 1939, and transferred to the Manhattan Project at the University of Rochester Medical Center during World War II, and later to the Atomic Energy Commission for research and teaching in radiation safety and health physics. He was a professor of radiation biology. He retired at the age of 65 and then served in the Monroe County Health Laboratory for diagnostic problems as a consultant until his retirement at the age of 85. Mr. Steadman was an avid poker player for many years with a group of his fellow researchers, and maintained his home and an extensive garden until his death. There will be no prior calling hours. A celebration of life will be held Saturday (Sept. 7) in the Chapel of the Presbyterian Church [unreadable]. Interment will be in White Haven Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Rochester Medical Center.
