  • Obituary: BRISTOL - Sophie "Sue" Wallace-Altmeyer, 84, widow of Arthur W. Wallace Sr. and Francis Altmeyer, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007, at Bristol Hospital, surrounded by her family. Sophie was born Jan. 22, 1923, in New Britain, a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Kusak) Wosczyna. Sophie "Sue" was a 1946 graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing. She served as a Navy nurse during WWII. She was present and assisted at the circus fire in Hartford in 1946, while attending nursing school. She did volunteer work for the Salvation Army soup kitchen for 25 years and also volunteered at Bristol Hospital. Sophie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur W. Jr. and Marie Wallace of Bristol and George M. and Billee Wallace of Unionville; four daughters, Maryann Pesino and her partner, Dave DeFelippi, of Bristol, Christine Wallace of Forestville, Susan C. and Danny Gelbar of Enfield and Darlene E. and Glenn Bourgoin of Bristol; a brother, Stanley Wosczyna of New Britain; grandchildren, Michael, Brian, and Mark Whitford, Kellie Schinkel, Cynthia Duval, Arthur W. Wallace III, Joseph, and Marie E. Wallace, Barry E., and Melissa A. Sobocz, Mathew G., Stephanie L., and Jacklyn N. Wallace, Nicholas and Amy Gelbar and Sarah and Allison Bourgoin; great-grandchildren, Erica, Alecia, Melanee, Emma, Adam, Alex, Aidin, Amber, and Kenneth Whitford, Derek, Gabrielle, and Anthony Schinkel, Ryan M. Duval, Madelyn Olivia Wallace and Calista R. Subocz; a great-great grandson, Tristain Toussant; stepgrandchildren, Amanda B. and Robert P. Neumann; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, John Wosczyna. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 9 a.m. from O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Forestville, to St. Joseph Church for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
