Marie was a daughter of the late Dimock and Katie (MacNeill) Cole. She was born in Wallace Highlands, Cumberland Co., on November 23, 1927 and was raised in Richmond and Tatamagouche. Marie was a school teacher retiring after 35 years. She was very proud of her profession, and was an avid educator. She started her teaching career right after high school and then attended Normal College in Truro. In 1969, she graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with her Bachelor of Education and in 1973 with her Master of Education in Guidance. She retired in 1983. After retirement she enjoyed many years of working and managing Sinclair's Meat Market with her son Jimmie and husband Edgar. Marie was very involved in her community. She was clerk of session for King's United Church for many years and continued to be a honorary elder until her passing. She was a member of King's United Church Women's Organization. She was treasurer for Goshen Community Club and Centre for over 30 years, as well as volunteering in many other aspects in her community. Marie was also very much involved in the Prince Henry Sinclair Society. Marie's family was always her first love. She was well known for her appreciation of life and her continued contact with her former students. She enjoyed a good laugh, playing cards and visits with her many friends. Marie also loved to travel with her sisters and friends. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Edgar; son, Jimmie(Judy), Goshen; daughter, Cheryl, Antigonish; six grandchildren, Jolene, Natasha, Courtney, Matthew, Evan, and Garrett; eight great-grandchildren, Jorja, Cole, Ava, Grayson, Jaelyn, Raya, Huxley, and Harlow; sisters-in-law, Edna Cole, Sandra Sinclair, and Marion(Allen) Lathem; many nieces and nephews. Marie was predeceased by sisters, Lula, Katherine, Florence, Cecelia, and Hazel; brothers, Lorne, Roy, and Morris. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. in King's United Church, Loch Katrine, from where funeral service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Meredith Marple officiating. Interment in Goshen Cemetery. Family flowers only please. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or Goshen Cemetery Fund.
