Wood Jr., 79, of Levering, passed away at the McLaren Hospice House in Cheboygan. John was born in Greenfield, Massachusetts on October 4, 1941, the son of John (Sr.) and Katherine (King) Wood. John grew up all over, moving a lot due to his father's work. He attended and graduated from Old Dominion University where he earned a degree in mathematics. On May 19, 2000, he married Sondra Collins in Jackson, Michigan who he blessed with almost 21 years of marriage. John worked for Consumer's Power for many years, retiring in May of 2012 before moving to Cheboygan. He was also very proud to be a Jackson Police Reserve from 1996-2010, even being awarded Reserve of the Year. John was an avid reader, gun aficionado, a workaholic, and an animal lover. John is survived by his wife, Sondra, four children, Katherine Francis (Robert) Adams, Johnathan Shaw (Michelle) Wood, Stephanie Peifer, and Desiree (Craig) Peifer, 9 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and very special friends, Timmy Gonzales and George and Susan Bliss. John is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Arthur Wood, and a grandson, Byron Wood. A funeral service will take place at the Nordman-Christian Funeral Home on Thursday, May 20 at 11:30am with visitation beginning at 9:30am.
