  • Obituary: Clarence (Skid) Cleveland Manomet Native, 10/25/11, born 3/31/24 in Manomet, MA, the last of 7 sons born to Bessie (Boomer) and Stanford L. Cleveland. Clarence was a graduate of Plymouth High School and attended the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point until the start of World War II, at which time he, along with his 6 brothers, entered active service duty. He is predeceased by brothers, Walter, Harry, Lewis, Wilfred, Roy, and Howard, with brother Howard giving his life in the service of his country on the Merchant vessel "The City of Atlanta" torpedoed off the N. Carolina coast in 1942. Clarence served in the Merchant Marine for 7 years and in 1949 was married to his wife, Doris (Reynolds) Cleveland. Doris and Clarence made their home in Cleveland, Ohio, moving to Twinsburg, Ohio in 1957. He worked in the marketing department for Master Builders Co. for 35 years and became a member of the Twinsburg Town Council, serving the council for 8 years. In this position he was very influential in shaping the future growth of the community and making it an outstanding city in the greater Cleveland area. After retirement in 1985, Clarence and Doris wintered in Ft. Pierce, FL, with a permanent move there in 2006. In 2010 they moved to North Carolina to be near their daughter. Clarence leaves his wife, Doris, of Tarboro, NC, daughter Virginia Cleveland Kloepfer of Greenville, NC, and son Carleton Cleveland of Houston, TX. A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 31, 2011, at 12 noon at the Second Church of Plymouth in Manomet.
