Notes

  • Obituary: YORK, Maine - Phoebe King (Herlihy) Sink, 93 years old, passed peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday morning, Jan. 25, 2017. Phoebe was married twice in her life, first to Dr. William J. King and, after his passing, to Theodore Sink. Each marriage lasted over 30 years. Born in Evanston, Ill., to William R. Herlihy and Mary Louise (Langill) Herlihy, Phoebe grew up in Wenham and Boston, Mass. She attended Boston Latin School and graduated from St. Cretienne's Academy and the Leland Powers School of Acting. She married Bill King in 1945, settling in Manchester, where Dr. King practiced anesthesiology at the Elliot Hospital until his death in 1975. After her marriage to Ted Sink in 1979, the couple spent their life together in Manchester, Kennebunk, Maine, and St. Augustine, Fla. A devoted mother, an avid reader and lifelong student of literature, Phoebe was blessed with an uncanny memory and a wonderful, unfailing sense of humor. She was a woman of deep faith for which she admitted later in life helped her through difficult times as well as bringing her much joy. Phoebe is survived by her children with Dr. King, Patricia Schnable, Catherine Woodbury, Christine Hunter, William J King Jr. and Thomas King; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as her step-children, Theodore Sink, Stephen Sink, Nicholas Sink, Elizabeth McCann, Melissa Mosley, Max Sink, Timothy Sink and Sebastian Sink, and 48 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her children, Peter King and Barbara (Robin) King Dulac, and Ted's children, John Sink, Joseph Sink, Quentin Sink and Jennifer Sink Luiz. Phoebe was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. She was a woman ahead of her time. . SERVICES: A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Christopher's Church, 4 Barrel Lane, York, Maine, 03909, on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at 10 a.m., with interment to follow privately in the spring. Memorial donations may be made in Phoebe's name to either the Wounded Warriors Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) or The (cancer.org/donate).
