Rumsey of Rimbey, Alberta passed away at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Health Centre, Wetaskiwin on Saturday, March 2, 2002 at the age of 83 years. Dave was born in High River, Alberta on January 4, 1919. He served his country during World War II from 1939 until 1944. Dave resided with his family in the Okotoks. Alberta area until 1961, at which time they moved to a farm at Calgary. As an avid hockey fan and the father of several sons, he refereed Junior hockey for several years in Okotoks. Dave also possessed a lifelong love of horses, and was instrumental in forming the Foothills Riding Club in Okotoks in 1958, proudly becoming the club's first president. After residing in the Bluffton area for many years, Dave and his wife Kay started training racehorses. He had the distinct pleasure of being awarded the honor of "Trainer of the Year" on the "B" circuit in 1978. "Dave's memory will be cherished by his many family and friends." Dave will be lovingly remembered by three sons, Bruce (Janet) of Spain, Allan (Barb) of Coaldale, Alberta, and Roger (Donna) of Rimbey; two daughters, Sharon of Condor, Alberta and Gail (Darrel) 0f Niton Junction, Aberta; daughters-in-law Iavinia of Peace River and Marlene of Bluffton, Alberta.as well as sixteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He will also be lovingly remembered by one brother Jim (Betty) of Spirit River, Alberta; several nieces and nephews; and his cousins, Helen Faulkner and Margot Randall, both of B.C. Dave was predeceased by his wife Kathleen, his sons, Paul, Rex and Richard, two brothers, Fred and Merv, and one sister Phyllis. Memorial Services will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 36, Rimbey, on Saturday, March 9, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with Mr. Don McFadyen officiating. Interment of cremated remains will follow in the Mount Auburn Cemetery, Rimbey.
