Bessie was born in Advocate Harbor on June 2, 1917, to the late Stewart and Abbie (Rolfe) Morris. Bessie was a nurse on the maternity floor in Digby General Hospital and delivered many babies until her retirement. Bessie and her husband Claire also owned Keen's Paint Store. Bessie loved her home on Shore Road where could watch the boats on the water. She loved to quilt and sew. Bessie was a member of Grace United Church and the Red Cross and quilted many quilts with the group. Bessie will be missed by daughter, Ruth (Stewart) Sullivan, Digby; grandsons, Robert Scanlan, Halifax; Leslie (Tera) Scanlan, Digby. Bessie was predeceased by husband, Claire Wells Keen and sister, Susie Stillwell. Visitation 7-9 pm Friday, July 27th, and 12-2 pm Saturday, July 28th, from Jayne's Funeral Home, 7 Birch St., Digby (245-2525), also where the Funeral service will be Saturday, July 28th at 2pm. Pastor Simone Wilson presiding. Interment in Fairview cemetery, Digby. Donations in memory of Bessie may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia.
