  • Obituary: It is with great sadness that the family of Raymond Frederick Mantle announces his passing on Sunday, February 1, 2015, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Raymond was born on December 8th, 1930 in Saint John, the son of the late Walter and Mary (Weatherbee) Mantle. In addition to his beloved wife, Dorothy (Gibbon) of 65 years, he is survived by his three sisters Ann Reicker (John), Barbara Field (Dave), Carolyn Field (Clarence), and brother Thomas Mantle (Colleen). Raymond worked at the school board as a lead custodian at the Vocational, Princess Elizabeth, and Glen Falls Schools for many years, and he was also the boiler room lead hand at the General Hospital. Raymond was a member of the Saint John Fire Department Salvage Corps. Dad took up gardening as a hobby, and created the most attractive gardens, always inviting the coming and going of hummingbirds. Dad was a great mentor to all of us, teaching us how to contribute to life in a positive way. We will be forever grateful. He leaves behind 3 children: Brenda Power, Brian Mantle, Cathy Mitchell (Gary); 6 grandchildren: Scott (Kari), Ryan (Terilynn), Krista (Andrew), Ashley (Jason), Logan and Liam, as well as 4 great-grandchildren: Tai, Dustin, Makayla and Mya. He was predeceased by his mother and father, and son-in-law Clifford Power. Raymond was a kind and gentle person that loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and will be truly missed by all. Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, with visitation on Wednesday from 1:00-3:00 p.m, followed by a memorial service in the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. For those who wish, remembrances to the Alzheimer's Society, or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
