Willena was born in a small village on the North Shore of Nova Scotia, Tatamagouche to loving parents Ross and Katherine Weatherby. Willie as she was called was predeceased by her sisters Christina Alyes, Alice Heighton, Lois Stone, her brothers Alex, Slyvester, Gerald, Earl, Charles, and Milo, and her husbands Roland Turple and Russell Stiles. When she was 15 she developed Tuberculosis and was sent to Kentville Sanatorium where she would spend the next five to six years. It was there that she met a young soldier that was from England who developed Tuberculosis as well and was also sent to the sanatorium. They married in 1947 and had a baby girl Linda in 1949. Willie was always learning new things. She taught herself to develop photos and she also had a small business. She learned to grow mushrooms, painted as well as doing tole work, and most of all she was famous for her handmade teddy bears. Willie had a true love of life and the people she encountered in her life. Roland passed away when she was 38 leaving Willie to go back to school. She attended a community college in Cape Breton where she took business. She went onto work for Scotiabank, she managed a Stedmens Store in Fredericton, N.B., and was an office manager of Kmart from which she retired. While in Fredericton she married Russell Stiles, and they had a wonderful life in Fredericton. Willie was known to always get up every day with a smile and would always go to bed with a smile. She was always surrounded by friends of which were plentiful! She loved music and dancing and she was a lifetime member of the Canadian Legion. She has left a big hole in everyone's heart but she has also left many great memories. She leaves behind her only daughter Linda Turple Willms (Ed); grandchildren Lori Staz (Marlina), and Holly Balderston (Trevor); great-grandchildren Etan Staz, Emma and Megan Balderston; and step-children Maureen, Ken, and Keith Stiles. Please keep her alive in your hearts as she dances in the sky. A Celebration of Life was held at Southwood Untied Church, (10690 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB), on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. Willie will be interred in her home town of Tatamagouche at a later date.
