  • Historical Information: Theodore Amos Cook had not yet turned 21 when he entered the U.S. Navy. He served as a Quartermaster aboard the minesweeper USS MAGPIE (AMS-25). On his 21st birthday, October 1, 1950 his ship struck a mine 2 miles off Chuson Po and sank; 21 men including young Theodore were lost. The Commanding Officer of the USS MAGPIE, LT. Warren R. Person, was also lost. There were 12 survivors who were rescued and taken to Pusan, South Korea. Theodore's name is listed on the Court of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. He was awarded numerous medals and citations including the Purple Heart.
