  • Obituary: The funeral of Mrs. Ruth Mattatall, 43, of 25 Spivey Lane, Caseyville Township, mother of 13 children, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday from the Kassly Funeral Home in East St. Louis, with burial in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Mrs. Mattatall was killed at 2:55 a.m. yesterday in a two-car accident on State Route 161 near Old Lincoln Trail in Caseyville Township. Death occurred on her 18th wedding anniversary. Her husband, William E. Mattatall, Jr. a floor tile contractor, said his wife was riding in an auto driven by Mrs. Betty Staples, 32, of 1901 North 60th Street, Washington Park, with whom she had gone bowling. Mrs. Staples and the driver of the other car, Mrs. Sharon Tharp, 24, of 1311 North 37th Street, East St. Louis, were injured seriously and are confined to St. Mary Hospital in East St. Louis. Three of Mrs. Mattatall's children were from a previous marriage. Her children range in age from 22 months to 27 years. Mrs. Mattatall's survivors include her husband five daughters, Eva Marie, Goldie Mae, Alice Roberta, and Marsha Darlene Mattatall, at home, and Mrs. Larry Hargis, Rapid City, S.D.; eight sons, Raymond E., David L., Donald J., Britt E., and Brian D., all at home, and Steven James Savala, Collinsville, and Pfc. Salvador Savala, Dover Del., and a stepson William E. Mattatall III, Caseyville.
