  • Obituary: Franklin Hillix Huyette, 89, died of pneumonia Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Wesley Acres, and burial was in Glendale Cemetery, both in Des Moines, Iowa. Franklin was born in Kendrick Oct. 14, 1914. He was the son of William L. Huyette and Minnie Florence Hillix Huyette of Clarkston. He was an early pioneer in the field of amateur radio in the Lewiston-Clarkston area. Frank built his first ham radio at age 16 with the call letters W7alz, then later in Bettendorf, Iowa, as WODST. He was employment manager for ALCOA Davenport Works in Spokane for 29 years, and served as director of the Bettendorf Chamber of Commerce and chairman of the Scott County Selective Service Board in Iowa. Upon retirement, Frank and Kitty moved to Boise, where they resided for 21 years. In 1996, they moved back to Iowa. Franklin was preceded in death by a baby brother; and an older brother, William Hawley Huyette of Pomeroy. He is survived by his wife, Catherine (Kitty) Huyette of Wesley Acres; six children, Gregory F. Huyette and wife Deb of Agoura Hills, Calif., David W. Huyette and wife Summer of Geneve, Switzerland, Steven R. Huyette and wife Barb of Des Moines, Marcia F. Huyette and daughter Genevieve of Cape Cod, Mass., Michael J. Huyette and wife Kelly of Salt Lake City and Lori C. Huyette of Denver; and nine grandchildren. Lewiston Morning Tribune Lewiston,ID November 11, 2004
