Although being treated for a heart ailment for some time he was in apparent good health when he left home to go down street less than an hour before. A verdict by the coroner's jury found that the deceased had come to his death from a heart attack and from an assault on the victim by his nephew. Men on the street stated that his nephew, who had been drinking, assaulted Phinney when he refused to make a purchase for him at the liquor store that afternoon. The accused has been charged with assault causing grevious bodily harm and has been remanded to the county jail in Amherst (Parrsboro Record, 16 Feb 1943)."
