  • Obituary: WELTON (Purdy), Mae Genevieve - 89, Tatamagouche, died suddenly on Friday, March 10, 2006, in Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche. Born in Malagash, she was a daughter of the late Elmer and Elmira (Patriquin) Purdy. Mae was postmaster for 10 years in Malagash and cooked for several years for the lumbermen in Kemptown and the fishermen in East Wallace. She also farmed for many years with her late husband Freeman at the old homestead in Malagash. Mae was an adherent of Malagash United Church. Surviving are her daughter, Helen (Gerald) Clattenburg, Timberlea; son, Maurice (Sandra) Baxter, Beaver Bank; daughter-in-law, Olivia Baxter, Malagash; sister, Lillian MacDonald, Tatamagouche; stepdaughters, Violet, Emily (Gary) Olsen, both of Parrsboro; Margaret (Lester) Rector, Springhill; stepsons, Richard Welton, Orillia, Ont.; Eric Welton and Donald Welton, both of Parrsboro; grandchildren, Troy (Helen) Baxter, Fort McMurray, Alta.; Shelley Baxter, Beaver Bank; Angela (Dave) Baxter-Cooley, Beaver Bank; Paul (Tracy) Clattenburg, Timberlea; Dawn (Raymond) Allen, Wallace; Nancy Baxter, Pugwash; stepgrandchildren, Janet Hache, Timberlea; Jim (Dawn) Clattenburg, Truro; Wayne (Ann) Clattenburg, Timberlea; great-grandchildren, Amber, Travis, Jessie, Denton, Parker, and Sullivan; a number of step great-grandchildren and step great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 13, in Malagash United Church, Rev. Doull officiating. Spring burial will be in South Shore Cemetery, Malagash. Family flowers only. Donations can be made to the North Shore Health Services Foundation Renovation Project or Malagash United Church.
