  • Obituary: Morse, Holmes Magee - 87, Windermere, Kings Co., passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Greenwood Square, Kings Co., he was a son of the late Vernon and Ethel (Magee) Morse. Holmes was a veteran of the Second World War and served with the R.C.A.F. He had worked for the Canadian General Electric in Halifax, for 25 years before moving to New Minas. Holmes owned and operated H. Morse Appliances in New Minas, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the Berwick United Church. Holmes enjoyed restoring and driving his antiques cars and was a member of the Valley Cruisers Car Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially trips to the old woods camp with all the boys. Surviving are his wife, Janet L. (Beattie) Morse; son, Robert (Kathryn) Morse, Windermere; daughters, Nancy (Jim Milligan) Little River Lake, Kings Co.; Bernice (Eugene) Taylor, Riverview, N.B.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles (Carol) Morse, Middleton; Donald (Ferna) Morse, Greenwood Square; sisters-in-law, Freda Beattie, Windermere; Joyce Beattie and Phyllis Beattie, Berwick; Edith Lee, Windermere; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Alvah Morse and his wife, Winnie Morse; brothers-in-law, George Beattie; James "Jimmy" Beattie; Ken Lee; Thomas "Tom" Beattie; sister-in-law, Hannah Beattie. Visitation for Holmes will take place on Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 p.m., in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service will take place 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 24. Rev. Linda Winton officiating, with burial in the Berwick Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
