  • Obituary: Bakersfield Californian on 8/2/2007 Michael Leslie Henry Jan. 28, 1950 - July 9, 2007 Michael was born January 28, 1950, in Bakersfield, CA to Willis Curtis and Elizabeth Henry. Mike attended local schools and developed a love of baseball which he was able to play while attending Bakersfield High School. After graduating from high school in 1968 Mike joined the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam, serving on Huey gunship helicopters. Mike received Silver and Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. Returning home in 1972 Mike married and started a new career. Hopper. Inc. became the learning ground of his welding career thanks to Roy Ross. Mike Henry Welding was known for quality and service. If Mike couldn't make it or repair it, it couldn't be done. An outdoorsman, Mike loved fishing, hunting and a campfire. The sight of an eagle would stop him every time; he had to watch it soar. If this man called you friend believe me you had a friend. Mike is survived by his wife, Laurie; sons and spouses, Jason and Jamie, Toby and Aubrey; and stepson, Christian Landon of London, England; sister and spouse, Catherine and Richard Killian of Grover City; grandchildren, Zachary, Garrett and Aurey; mother-in-law, Evelyn Warren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was a caring and generous man. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it, food for your belly, and God's word for your soul. He will be missed beyond measure. Please come join us for graveside services to be held Saturday, August 4th, 10:00 a.m., at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 9101 Kern Canyon Road.
