Notes

  • Obituary: CUNNINGHAM, Mary Dorothea (Manning) September 22, 1918 - January 21, 2018 It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Mary Dorothea Cunningham. Beloved wife of the late Dr Robert L Cunningham, well loved mother of Leonard (d: 2006) (Sharon), Anne (Raymond Desjardins), Susan Cunningham Tilbury, Donald (Lee), Margie Cunningham; loving grandmother of Chloe and David Cunningham, Christian, Jason and Zoe (Fawcett) Desjardins, Nicholas and Liam Tilbury, Lee Anne and Thea Cunningham; delighted great-grandmother of Ben, Lennie and Louis Cunningham, Sofia, Charlotte and Emilie Desjardins, Gabrielle and Tristan Fawcett. Predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Roy Manning, her brother David, and her sisters Eileen, Margaret (Billy), Joan and Sheila. Mom lived a wonderful life travelling the world, planting every seed she could find, painting and taking art courses, playing bridge, baking her favourite oatmeal cookies and date squares, stopping at every antique store she and Dad came across on their camping trips, hunting for treasures at garage sales and thrift stores, and taking care of all of us! She was a great mother, very relaxed, and devoted to her family. She always said she had the best husband and the best children and that she would not change a thing! We are very fortunate to have had Mom in our lives for such a long time. We will miss her but it was her time. She passed peacefully and without pain. "You can shed tears that she is gone, or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she will come back, or you can open your eyes and see all she's left. Your heart can be empty because you can't see her, or you can be full of the love you shared You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday, or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she has gone, or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back, or you can do what she'd want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on." (unknown author) We would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at the Grace Manor for everything they did for Mom. We will always feel blessed that she was there these last three years. Mom has been cremated and a celebration of her life will take place at a later date. For those wishing to do so, donations to Citizen Advocacy or the Grace Manor would be appreciated.
