Among those at his side were his three children and the love of his life - and wife of fifty-eight years - Ellie. Norman took, and expressed, enormous pride in those children, Mary Alper (Northampton, MA), Janet Hassinger (Mystic), and David Whiston (Boston, MA), and five grandchildren, Kate, Emily, Ben, Andrew and Hannah. They will continue to find strength in that love and support. He will also be missed by his sister, Janet Whiston (Brookville, FL) and brother Frank Whiston (McHenry, MS). His family will also cherish his reminiscings on a colorful youth -rowing ahead of oncoming fog banks in Nova Scotia at the age of ten; biking from greater Boston to Nova Scotia a few years later at the height of WW II; Navy duty in Morocco; courting Ellie in Boston and Maine. They will hold dear memories of their own family vacations - on Sebago Lake, camping in Bar Harbor, driving to Florida in the Ford Falcon, and at 'the house in Gray'. Old colleagues at the W.T. Grant Company and Navy Exchange in Groton will remember a gentleman of integrity and civility. The community at Saint Mark's Church in Mystic will remember his years of service and his deep, abiding faith. His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday from 4-6pm. A Funeral Eucharist will be celebrated at St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Thursday at 11am. Fr. Mark A. Santucci, Rector, will celebrate. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.
