For some years Mr. Gates had not been in very robust health but continued about his work as usual until within forty-eight hours of his death. None of his old friends had any idea that the end was so near. He was a member of the Melvern Square Baptist church having united with that church when a boy thirteen years of age. As a citizen and neighbour he was held in the highest esteem. The funeral services were held in the North Kingston Baptist church and were conducted by the pastor Rev. C.R. Freeman, assisted by Rev. P.S. McGregor. Besides his wife Miss Hattie Margeson, and her father who resides in the home, he is also survived by two brothers and three sisters.
