  • Obituary: Myrtle O. (Margeson) Everett of Walpole died August 10 at the age of 93. Myrtle never understood the words "I can't." At a very young age, she had to move out on her own. Not only did she have to fend for herself but had to raise her sister. She met her future husband and they were married in 1941. They started a family in 1943. Both were very active in the church and scouting. Each became troop leaders. When her husband sustained a heart attack, Myrtle not only took care of him and her kids but she began working in the cafeteria system of Walpole raising herself to manager. In spite of her crippling arthritis, Myrtle would never have anyone perform a task that she would not do. Her arthritis never stopped her from cooking, driving the car or playing the piano until she broke her hip and arm in 2000. Up until she was 93, Myrtle was still able to dress and feed herself, each task my have taken triple the time but she was determined not to give in. She also enjoyed going to the seniors hall weekly for the many social activities, especially the bingo. Myrtle was the beloved wife of the late Bruce Everett of 44 years. Devoted mother of Robert B. and his wife Lulu, Paul E and the late Jane Valentine of Walpole. Cherished sister of the late Clarence, Charles, Harold and Helen Spinney. Cherished mother-in-law of William Valentine. Loving "grandma" of Sarah Ceurvels, Paul Everett, Jr., Diane Tracey and Tina Hoyt. Also survived by 13 great grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. A Funeral Service was held Monday morning at 10 a.m. at the Alexander F. Thomas & Sons Funeral Home, 45 Common St., Walpole. Rev. Ray Kostulias officiated. Interment was at Knollwood Memorial Park. Donations in Myrtle's memory may be made to the Walpole Council of Aging, Inc., 135 School Street, Walpole 02081.
