  • Obituary: Obituary: The Fergus Falls Daily Journal - March 14, 2001 Howard Burns, 75, of Ashby, died Monday, March 12, 2001 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. He was born June 24, 1925 in Pomme de Terre Township near Elbow Lake to Ralph and Clara (Schaeffer) Burns. He attended rural school in Pomme de Terre Township and then farmed with his dad. On December 30, 1945 he married Irene Salvog at the Vining Lutheran Church in Vining. They lived in Pomme de Terre Township where they farmed, had a dairy herd and raised feeder cattle. While continuing to farm he worked construction in Minneapolis. He was also a Dispatcher at the Grant County Sheriff's office, was a Bailiff for Grant County and worked as a weed inspector for Grant County. The couple moved to Ashby a year ago from the farm and he became a resident of the Pelican Lake Health Care Center. He loved to fish, hunt and do wood carving. He made many wood decoys. He enjoyed his family and visiting with friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Irene of Ashby; two daughters, Avis (Harvey) Bothun of Garfield and Helen (Don) Evink of Hospers, IA; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Elsie Logan Mickal of Glenwood; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation: Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nilson Funeral Home, Ashby, and one hour prior to the service Service: 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Ashby Clergy: Rev. Wm O.
