  • Obituary: Donald "Paul" Weimer, 68, of Topeka passed away on January 20, 2017 at Midland Care Hospice House following a long illness. He was born in Kansas City on October 15, 1948 to Donald and Elizabeth Weimer and graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1966. He attended Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA, where he edited the school's newspaper, and graduated with a degree in economics in 1970. In 1999, he received an M.S. in management from Baker University. An avid sports fan, Paul covered some of the biggest events in the 1970's and 80's as a writer for The Patriot-News in Harrisburg, PA. He also worked in sporting event promotion, and managed the media room for the LPGA tour's Lady Keystone Open in Hershey, PA. Paul then worked in fundraising for the American Cancer Society in Pennsylvania while also operating a retail store selling baby products and furniture. He later was promoted to the national headquarters of the American Cancer Society in Atlanta, GA. He is survived by his wife of nine years, Mary Ann Weimer of Topeka; brother, Larry Weimer and sister, Marge Weimer of Kansas City, KS; adult sons, Kevin and Nathan Weimer of Atlanta, GA; step-son, Bryan Caskey of Topeka; step-daughter Beth Smoller of St. George and two granddaughters. Per his wishes, cremation is planned. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Topeka Bible Church, 1101 Mulvane in Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Topeka Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 8350 Topeka, KS 66608 or the Kansas City Rescue Mission, 1520 Cherry St, Kansas City, MO 64108.
