  • Obituary: David Bruce Johnson, 80 of Sarasota, FL and formerly of New London, NH passed away peacefully on March 5, 2015. Born October 23, 1934 in Bridgeport, CT he was the son of the late Theodore and Louise (MacPherson) Johnson and husband of the late Judith (MacLeod) Johnson who preceded him in death on June 23, 2009. David was an exceptional man in so many ways. He had a quick wit, loved hunting, fishing, golfing and had a remarkable aviation career that began when he was the youngest pilot to solo in his home state of Connecticut. After graduating from school in CT, David went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, worked in Air Traffic Control at Boston Center and Bradley Field and then on to have a full career with American Airlines retiring as an International Check Airman Captain on the B767 in 1994. David was also an aviation consultant, board member of the APA Safety Committee, a Grey Eagles member and was one of the original simulator instructors for the KC-135 program at AAL in 1985. After retirement David continued to enjoy his family and pets, fly his own private aircraft, traveling in his RV and boating with his loving wife Judy. David is survived by his four children, Jeff (Mary) Johnson of Sarasota, Tracey (James) Schlosser of Sarasota, Susan (Peter) Lunt of Wellington, FL, Heather (Darron) Reid of Minneapolis, MN and eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. The service is May 23, 2015 11:30am, at Sarasota National Cemetery,9810 SR 72 Sarasota FL and a Celebration of Life for both Dave and Judy is planned following the service.
