  • Obituary: COTUIT '97 Pearl W. "Pearlie" Lopes (Burlingame), passed away peacefully following a courageous battle of declining health at her home in Cotuit on July 9, 2014, at the age of 87 surrounded by her family. She was wife of the late Marshall J. Lopes Sr. and Roger A. Burlingame. Mother of the late Marshall J. Lopes Jr. and Michele P. "Shelly" Lopes.Born and raised in Marstons Mills in the once known Charles W. Marston House to the late Mary G. (Fernandes) and Benjamin R. Perry both immigrants of Fogo, Cape Verde Islands.Mrs. Lopes attended Barnstable schools. For over 25 years she was a proud and well respected foreman for A.D. Makepeace Co. Wareham, Mass., until her retirement. In her earlier years as a young girl she was a homemaker alongside her mother for many well known Cape families such as the Kennedy's of Hyannis Port and the Johnson's and Dupont's of Osterville and Oyster Harbors.Pearl was an avid golfer, gardener, dancer, card player, cook, Red Sox and Celtics fan. She had a love for the ocean whether it was on or offshore, fishing and sailing. Well known for her mother's infamous pumpkin bread enjoyed by many along the East Coast, especially those within the Barnstable Public School system for over 20 years. She is survived by sisters Benvinda "Vinda" Lopes of Harwich and Delainda "Julia" Miranda of Marstons Mills; sister-in-laws Mary A., Loyse V., Elizabeth "Betty" J. of Osterville; brother-in-law Douglas D. Galvin of Florida; grandchildren Marshall W. Lopes-Pogue and Benjamin R. Lopes-Pogue of Cotuit; plus a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Pearl was predeceased by Sisters Beatrice Barros, Mary Pina, Adeline Galvin-Reed and the infamous "Perry brothers" Joseph, John, Benjamin, Harold, Clinton "Clinty," Wilson and Antonio "Chico."Visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road (Route 28) Marstons Mills. A celebration of Pearl's life will begin at the funeral home on July 19 at 9 a.m. and a Mass of Christian burial starting at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 76 Wianno Ave, Osterville. Followed by a traditional Cape Verdean burial in Mosswood Cemetery, Putnam Ave., Cotuit.Donations in Pearl's memory may be made to the St. Anthony's Charitable Club of Osterville, P.O.
