  • Obituary: James E. "Jim" Phinney, 97, of Palatka passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at his residence following a brief illness. He was born in Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, Canada and had been a resident of Palatka since 1926 coming from Lawrencetown. He was a 1935 graduate of the Putnam High School. He served as Supervisor of Transportation of the Putnam County School System from 1949-1979. He attended the St. Marks Episcopal Church in Palatka since 1926 and had served several times on the Vestry. He taught Sunday School for several years, cooked breakfast for the men's group, served on the ministry of buildings and was an usher. He was an avid woodcarver and enjoyed square dancing. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Jessie Patriquin and Evelyn Dodge; one brother, Jack Phinney; and a great-granddaughter, Audra Phinney. Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Audrey Phinney of Palatka; two sons, Norman Phinney and his fianceĆ©, Lynn Longworth of Orange Springs and Neil Phinney and his wife Patsy of Knoxville, TN; six grandchildren and spouses, Jimmy Phinney of Orange Springs, David Phinney of Bakersfield, CA, Candace and Billy Bohannon of Hollister, Kimberly and Kevin Bugner of Spring Hill, FL, Greg Rice of Interlachen, and Karen and Jeff Reinbolt of Knoxville, TN; and ten great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Masters Funeral Home in Palatka. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Palatka with Father Bob Marsh officiating. Burial will follow in Peniel Cemetery. To honor and celebrate his life a Video Tribute will be shown. Memorial gifts may be sent to St. Marks Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 370, Palatka, Florida 32178 for the building fund.
